Bagan

Bagan, home to over 2,000 ancient temples and pagodas is known to many locals and foreigners as the “Land of a Thousand Temples, was once the seat of the Bagan Kingdom. The most famous temples in Bagan include Ananda Temple, Shwezigon pagoda, Dhammayangyi temple, Hitlominlo temple, Ku Byauk Gyi temple and Thatbyinnyu temple. Shwezigon pagoda, a prototype of Burmese stupa is one of the most venerated pagodas in Myanmar as it enshrines a bone and tooth relic of Gautama Buddha. Hitlominlo temple is world known for its fine plaster carvings and Buddha images since the reign of King Htilominlo in the 13th century. Ku Byauk Gyi temple posseses fame for its well-preserved murals depicting scenes from Buddha’s life. The stunning sunsets and sunrises over the temple-studded plains is one of the highlights of Bagan. The hot air balloon flights over the Bagan Archaeological Zone is a truly unforgettable experience. Yangon - Bagan - Ngapali Beach

YANGON ARRIVAL (-, -, -)

Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, your tour guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel (Early check-in is subject to available). At 14:00, you will start the tour of Yangon which includes colonial-style city center and a stroll through the Bogyoke (Scotts) Market, a traditional market attracting you to Myanmar meals & snacks, handwoven textiles & garments, lacquerware & handicrafts, paintings & souvenirs, jewelry & gems. Your day tour will be complete with a visit to one of the world’s most spectacular icon “the Shwedagon Pagoda”. Both lunch and dinner are on your own account. Overnight stay in Yangon. Note: Bogyoke (Scotts) Market is closed on Mondays and Public Holidays.

YANGON – BAGAN (Breakfast, -, -)

In the morning, your guide will pick you up at your hotel and transfer you to the airport for a domestic flight to Bagan. Upon arrival at the airport, you will continue the day with visits to the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including Ku Byauk Gyi, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes; Htilominlo, the last Bamar style temple built in Bagan, with old murals and friezes and Ananda Temple, with four standing Buddha images. After lunch (on your own account) at a local restaurant, you will learn about one of Myanmar’s most treasured handicrafts at a lacquerware craftsmen’s workshop. Next, you will explore the Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple, a temple noteworthy for its mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO. You will continue touring to Dhammayangyi, a massive temple dating from 1170 that is famous for its interlocking mortar less brickwork. The day tour ends with a peaceful sunset watching over the plains of Bagan dotted with more than 2,000 temples. Enjoy dinner on your own account and overnight stay in Bagan. Note: The current Yangon -Bagan-Yangon domestic flights have schedules only on Fridays and Sundays.

BAGAN (Breakfast, -, -)

Optional: Experience the magic of Bagan and a thousand years of history from the enchanting platform of a hot air balloon. ‘Oriental Ballooning’ & “Balloons Over Bagan” offer visitors exclusive sunrise champagne flights over the ancient pagodas of Bagan from October to March.

After breakfast, your tour guide will accompany you on a drive to the early morning local market and give you the opportunity to stroll at ease to be among the community of local buyers and sellers of various local vegetables and fruits, local breakfast snacks fresh chopped meat, fish and chicken. Then, you will proceed to the Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; you will see the wonders of the 12th century frescoes adorning the corridors of Kyansittha Cave Temple. Then the visit to the three shrines of Payathonzu which are connected by passages adorned with Mahayanist or Tantric mural paintings; followed by a visit to Nandamanya Temples noted for exquisite murals of 13th century.

Bagan is not only the site of ancient thousands of years old temples and pagodas, but also the residence for its communities living in and around many small villages scattered throughout the temple plains. Your community visit includes the village of Minnanthu to see how the local people live. Enjoy Lunch on your own account at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, a horse cart ride is arranged for you to venture out to some of the more off-the-beaten track temples and pagodas. You will not experience the normal trotted trails but the unexpected thrilling ventures over dusty roads and small paths taking you back historically to Bagan of over one thousand years old. Through your guide’s story telling at each point of entry into the temples and pagodas, you can visualize the mystiques  of Abeyadana Temple with frescoes representing Bodhisattvas and the gods of Indian mythology; Manuha Temple, built in the Mon-style in 1059, Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument said to have been the palace of King Manuha and Myazedi Stupa , Myanmar’s “Rosetta Stone”, bearing inscriptions written in four languages. Being enchanted with the Bagan’s history and culture, you will have leisurely horse cart ride  to the hotel. Private time and enjoy dinner on your own account; and overnight stay in Bagan.

After breakfast, the guide will transfer you to the airport for your domestic flight back to Yangon. Upon arrival in Yangon, the guide will accompany you to check in to your hotel. You will enjoy the leisurely private time on  self-arrangement. Both lunch and dinner are on your own account and overnight stay in Yangon.

After breakfast at the hotel, the guide will pick you up and transfer you to Yangon Airport for a domestic flight to Thandwe.
